Midtown Global Market wants to help Twin Cities residents embrace and enjoy the coldest months of the year through a series of events. Celebrate Winter in the City at Midtown Global Market will take place the last Sunday of each month in January, February, and March, 2011. Each event will highlight fun, healthy and educational winter activities in Minnesota.
WINTER FOODS - Sunday, January 30, 2011 noon- 4 p.m.
The first event in the series will focus on foods that are “in season” during the winter. Guests can pick up ingredients, recipes and samples. Highlights of this event include the 4th Annual Global Soup Cook-Off. Midtown Global Market chefs will prepare a soup using in-season, local ingredients and compete against each other for the coveted “People’s Choice Award.” Guests can sample and vote for their favorite. A $4 donation is requested. Proceeds benefit Perspective Kids Café, a nutrition program for at-risk or homeless youth in the Twin Cities.
Other activities will include a winter cooking “showdown” between The Arts Institute Culinary program and Le Cordon Bleu, and children’s culinary activities with representatives from FriendChip Farm.
HEART HEALTH – Sunday, February 27, 2011 noon-4 p.m.
In honor of American Heart Month, Midtown Global Market will partner with Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation to provide FREE Heart Health Screenings.
Screenings include:
- Blood Pressure
- Cholesterol and triglycerides - Framingham Risk Score
- Glucose - Height and Weight
- Body Mass Index - Lifestyle Coaching
Local bike shops and fitness clubs will be on-hand to offer ideas on how to stay active and healthy in the cold winter months.
LOCAL FOODS– Sunday, March 27, 2011 noon-4 p.m.
March brings the end to winter, and many people look forward to spring and planting their gardens and visiting local farmer’s markets. March’s event will give guests a chance to preview local spring produce, and learn how to grow these foods in their own gardens.
