Interactive Workshops for Job Seekers to Be Held Jan 5 and Feb 11
Minneapolis (November 30, 2009) – The Dream Job Lab, a half-day interactive workshop created for those in “job search” or “job transition” modes, will host two upcoming workshops on January 5 and February 11, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Southern Theater (1420 Washington Ave S, Minneapolis). The Dream Job Lab workshop was created for job seekers and those stagnant in their current position to help them clarify the vision of their dream job, teach them to refresh their enthusiasm, stay inspired, and ultimately create a “traction plan.”
Workshop participants will focus on their language, experiences, talent and vision and walk away with a personalized “traction plan” to re-engage in their work search in a more productive way. The Dream Job Lab connects people face-to-face and gives them the tools to create their best opportunities. The Dream Job Lab co-creators Cathy Paper Bottern and engagement consultant Carr Hagerman know that with unemployment at record highs, many people are taking any job they can find. A job taken out of paycheck desperation, fear or panic won’t meet the objectives of the either the employee or their new company.
“Finding a job is always challenging, but the anxiety and fear that many feel today, is perhaps greater than it’s been in decades,” says Hagerman. “This fear affects not only the way we look for a job, but how we feel about ourselves, and the values and relevance we bring to our work.”
According to Bottern, “People get more excited about birthdays at work than taking pride in their job. This means that we need to start dreaming again to create the best match between job talent and employer.”
The Southern Theater environment will encourage participants to shed their interview façade, connect with their creativity and give them a chance to push their thinking and action boundaries. “We’ve always wanted to partner with businesses and the community,” says Damon Runnals, Production Manager at The Southern Theater. “By helping others find meaningful work, we want to form the relationships to help others get inspired. We have our dream jobs, but we want to help others find theirs.”
The cost for attendance is $99. The Dream Job Lab is offering five scholarships thanks to their partnership with The Southern Theater (who administers the McKnight Foundation Fellowships in Dance and Choreography).
